Last week the hubby and I joined some good friends of ours for a special after-hours event at the Houston Zoo. Photographers of all shapes and sizes were lined up for the chance to snap some shots of the Carnivores, typically nocturnal animals who usually aren’t out posing for photos during the hot Houston days. I joined the throng and had a thoroughly good time despite experiencing some serious lens-envy.
Between the lack of good light, my lack of a good zoom lens, and the presence of glass and wire cages I didn’t get that many shots to brag about. I did get a few, though, that I decided were blog-worthy. Make sure, as always, to check the rollover text. :)
Anywho, I think the lesson we can all take from this is that the meerkats are by far the most photo-worthy of the zoo dwellers. And that I really need a zoom lens. Garner out.

Seriously… don’t mess with Jonathan the Great, and I love the photos. Photo day/night at the zoo is always a blast. It’s nice to be surrounded by photo enthusiasts like that. Don’t forget to add your photos to their Flickr group. Sharing is part of the inspiration! :)

I get serious lens envy ALL the time. I go around with my little 50mm and kit lens. It’s very sad. I have rented a few times from borrowlenses.com with some good success. Of course, I just get more sad when I have to mail the gorgeous wide angle zoom lenses back. :)

Right?! Since this post I’ve actually gotten my hands on a few new toys – a 28-70 f/3.5-4, a 70-300 f/4-5.6, and a canon EFS 55-250 f/4-5.6 IS. The first two are on loan from my grandmother who doesn’t use them anymore, older models, and the latter was my birthday present last week! I’m actually posting about that new lens in a few days. Super excited! Of course, as soon as I got it, a friend of mine got a canon L series f/2.8 lens that costs $1400… such is life. ;) There is always a better lens!

If you’re ever in the Houston area, we can go shooting together and you can play with them!
